J- Beauty vs K Beauty : The Beauty war

Helloouuu fam,

This blog is gonna be fun. It has business and beauty. Its on Skin care industry. So in my Global Marketing class of IIM Bangalore, our professor Malika mam, keeps showing us global brands in all her sessions. So last week, she brought to us 2 moisturizer and told us to apply it and experience the difference. This inspired me to create this blog. The products were: Laneige, the hydration-focused flagship of the Amore Pacific Corporation, and WASO, a specialized line by Shiseido designed to harmonize traditional Japanese ingredients with modern clinical efficacy. So lets dive in....

The evolution of the East Asian cosmetic industry has established a global benchmark for dermatological innovation, primarily through the diverging philosophies of South Korean and Japanese skincare. Today, we are looking at skincare through a much deeper lens than just vanity; it has become a fundamental act of self-care and wellbeing. Instead of chasing an unreachable, airbrushed ideal, people are embracing their skin’s natural journey, focusing on "aging gracefully" and finding a healthy, authentic glow.

Skin care is now framed less as vanity and more as wellbeing: preventing damage, aging gracefully, and feeling good in your own skin rather than chasing a single beauty ideal. There is strong growth in:
Preventive care (SPF, barrier repair, anti-pollution).Anti-aging and brightening, but with softer language: “glow”, “healthy skin”, “repair” instead of harsh “whitening” claims in many markets.

My personal experience:  WASO felt thick, had some fragrance. Laneige felt light and watery, it felt soft post application. I kept feeling the Korean part on my hand more to be honest, it really kind of cooled my hand and felt really soft. Price wise both are pricy, Laneige was less pricier and hence would go for that mostly.
